Griffith was known for writing folk music and is most famously known for writing the songs, Love at the Five and Dime, and From a Distance.

What was Nanci Griffith's cause of death?

Griffith's management company announced the news in a statement.

“It was Nanci’s wish that no further formal statement or press release happen for a week following her passing,” Gold Mountain Entertainment said.

While the death has been confirmed, a cause was not revealed.

Fellow country singer and songwriter, Suzy Bogguss, who previously worked with Nancy paid tribute to her friend in an emotional message on Facebook.

“A beautiful soul that I love has left this earth," Bogguss wrote.

"I feel blessed to have many memories of our times together along with most everything she ever recorded.

"I’m going to spend the day reveling in the articulate masterful legacy she’s left us.”

Was Nanci Griffith married?

Throughout her life, Griffith was only married once.

From 1976 to 1982, Griffith was married to singer-songwriter Eric Taylor.

While it was unknown why the two divorced, Taylor later died in March of 2020 at the age of 70.

After her divorce, Griffith went on to get engaged to singer-songwriter Tom Kimmel, but the two parted before walking down the aisle.
