What happened to Luke Bryan's sister Kelly Bryan?

Luke Bryan's older sister Kelly Bryan passed away unexpectedly in May 2007.

Luke's wife Caroline Boyer told CMT that Kelly was "healthy, beautiful, and the best mom to ever walk this earth."

Luke's brother-in-law, Ben Lee Cheshire, was left to raise their three children.

However, tragedy struck once more when Lee died of a heart attack seven years later, leaving Jordan, Kris, and Til parentless.

Bryan and his wife Caroline adopted the three kids and now look after them as their own.

Bryan said: “Now we have three children that have lost both their parents, so that becomes our new focus, to try to navigate and guide them through this life."

In fact, when Jordan got married over Labor Day weekend in 2021, Bryan walked his niece down the aisle.

Emily Clarke Events shared a of Bryan walking Jordan toward her groom, Clint Eudy, at the Troubadour Golf and Field Club in College Grove, , according to .

The page also shared a clip of Bryan and Jordan dancing to “You’ll Be In My Heart” from the “Tarzan" soundtrack.

What was Kelly Bryan's cause of death?

Kelly Bryan's cause of death was never confirmed.

Luke told PEOPLE in 2013: "She was home with her 3-year-old, and it was like someone turned the lights out."

He said: "They never determined what happened. The autopsies, the coroner, no one could figure it out."

Kelly's tragic passing actually came after the death of his older brother Chris in 1996 in a car accident.

Bryan was just 19 at the time and it pushed him to pursue his career in music.

Bryan recalled: “My dad could tell I was one foot in the door, one foot out the door.”

“He was really really adamant about me chasing my dreams just based on what we had dealt with my brother. We had seen how fragile life was.”

The singer has spoken about his eternal gratitude towards his late family members.

He said: "Maybe Chris and Kelly and Lee have moved some puzzle pieces around to make my life so fortunate,

"When I say my prayers at night, I have to say, 'Thank y'all for looking after us down here.'"
