The actor addressed rumors surrounding him and Rodrigo’s relationship, saying that “the hardest thing has been biting my tongue.”

In Jue 2021, Joshua Bassett, 20, spoke to about his former relationship with Disney star Olivia Rodrigo.
Basset, who was linked to Rodrigo after they met on the set of “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” back in 2019, finally spoke out about the rumors surrounding their split, saying: “People don’t know anything they’re talking about.
He further stated: “the hardest thing has been biting my tongue in a lot of ways, but the reality is that it's kind of like a lost cause trying to talk about any of that stuff, and I refuse to feed into any of the bullshit, so I just don’t”.

What did Olivia Rodrigo say about the breakup?
In January 2021, Olivia released a song called "Drivers Licence". Her fans made assumptions online that the lyrics of the song were coded messages implying that she had been sadly dumped by Joshua.
Further deepening the rumor, Olivia subsequently released an entire album called "Sour".
This album featured a lot of songs that highlighted issues of relationship breakups, with one song having a distinct name called "Traitor".
Even though she did not respond to claims to deny whether or not the lyrics referred to Joshua, her fans spread rumors on social media to criticize him for dumping their beloved superstar.
How did Joshua respond to the rumors?
After Joshua released three new singles on Thursday, December 2, 2021, netizens firmly concluded he was launching a scathing attack in response to Olivia's veiled messages to her fans.
In one of his newly-released songs called "Crisis", the lyrics stated: “Half the s***t you’re saying’s only half true. Messing with my life as a career move. I can’t help but wonder why you won’t make it end".
He went on to say in this same song: "I wish that I could open my eyes and the nightmare be over. But you sensationalize, keep fanning the fire for the headlines”.
Interestingly, one of his newly-released songs was called "Set me free".
One line he made in that song was: "I don’t recognize you not anymore. You’re not the love that I fell for".
Even though Joshua has not confirmed that these newly released songs are directed at Olivia, fans just can't stop speculation about the lyrics of his song.
