According to , Mahl first met Garth Brooks, 61, while they were both in a bar near Oklahoma State University.
Brooks and Mahl both attended the midwestern college.
Brooks was a bouncer, and Mahl was a patron when they met, as Brooks broke up a fight involving Mahl.
The outlet states: "One night, while Brooks was working at the bar as a bouncer, he came upon a fight between two women, and one woman had gotten her hand stuck in the wall's wood paneling during the fight.
"The woman with her hand in the wall was Mahl, Brooks' future wife."
The pair tied the knot on May 24, 1986.
Brooks soon began climbing to superstar heights as his music career blossomed.

According to Wide Open Country, Mahl is a "talented songwriter" who co-wrote Brooks' songs I've Got A Good Thing Going and That Summer.
