What has Chet Hanks said about his famous dad Tom?

Chet lashed out at his dad saying he didn't have "a strong male role model" while growing up.

During his February 16, 2022, episode of his YouTube channel Hanx Fit, he spoke about the difficulties growing up as Tom's son.

He said people perceived him as an "arrogant, entitled, spoiled brat," and that took a toll on him emotionally.

He said: "People would make up their minds about me before they even got a chance to know me, and it was extremely hard to break down their wall, so I encountered a lot of disdain, a lot of animosity, a lot of negativity because everybody was just prepared to hate my guts."

He added that he "didn't have a strong role model to tell me 'bro, f*** these people, they are just jealous of you'."

He said: "You have all these things that they want, so they are trying to f****** throw their shade at you so you can feel s***** about yourself because they are jealous."

He went on to say that though he had a "privileged" upbringing, he was never spoiled by his family.

Chet said: "My parents didn’t spoil me; I was never just given money or an allowance. I had to work and earn everything that I’ve made, and it’s been that way for my entire life."

He said being asked what it was like being Hanks' son was "the No 1 question" he got from people - including former President George W Bush, who Chet met when he was 14 while touring The White House.

Chet told the President at the time: "There's a lot of advantages, but sometimes it can be pretty weird."

He said having a privileged background afforded him the opportunity to "travel the world, stay in nice hotels, fly in private planes," and that he wouldn't change his life for anything.

"I love my parents,"; he said of his dad and mom, Rita.

"I wouldn’t want any different parents, and I wouldn’t want any different life, so I’m very grateful and blessed for all that."

But he said growing up famous could be a "double-edged sword" and was "a lot more complicated" than people realised.

Chet said: "You've got to keep in mind that fame is the most powerful drug known to man.

"It can also be the most destructive. People are infatuated with fame: They put famous people on a pedestal.

"Everybody wants to be famous. It creates a lot of jealousy, a lot of envy.

"Everyone is doing whatever they can to become famous. We think that it's going to validate us, and I've been guilty of that too.

"But the truth is that seeking validation from fame and from others only amplifies your misery.
