Regina King had one son named Ian Alexander Jr. who passed away, aged 26 from a reported suicide.
King confirmed Ian's death in a statement on Friday, January 21, 2022, describing her only child as a "bright light who cared so deeply about the happiness of others."
Ian was a DJ and singer-songwriter who performed under the name Desduné. He had posted on Instagram just three days ago about an upcoming event at Bardot this month.
The Emmy-winning actress often spoke of her close bond with her son, revealing on The View in 2017 that the pair got matching tattoos.
In 2019, Alexander told that "Usually people will ask me, 'What's it like having Regina King be your mother,'"
"She's just a super mom, really."
"She doesn't really let bad work days or anything come back and ruin the time that we have, so it's really awesome to have a mother that ... I can enjoy spending time with and all that."
