Who are the Dolan Twins?

The Dolan Twins are a social media duo born on December 16, 1999, in Long Valley, New Jersey.

They first rose to fame on the short video platform Vine but have been on YouTube since they were 14.

To date, their shared channel boasts 9.9million subscribers.

Known by fans for their appearance and comedic content, the pair won the 2016 Teen Choice Award for Choice Web Star: Male and Choice YouTuber.

But aside from their prank videos and comedy skits, the Dolans have been candid with fans about mental health issues and their struggle with anxiety.

Why are the Dolan Twins leaving YouTube?

The influencers decided to leave the social media platform after revealing the pressure they felt to upkeep their YouTube personas.

On January 14, 2021, they announced their decision on their Deeper podcast.

The two said: "We are not moving on from YouTube because we have a lack of appreciation for you guys."

On a later podcast episode, they elaborated on their decision to move on from the video site.

"It’s hard to find the balance of what you want to film and what the fans want to see," Ethan said.

"I feel like I’ve become trapped in my 17-year-old body as soon as the f**king camera turns on because this is what my audience likes. I have to turn it on."

They went on to explain their desire to move on with their lives and venture out to different career fields.

Observant fans had suspected that this news was coming as the pair have intermittently commented on the toll that weekly uploads were taking on their mental health.

In 2019, the Dolans announced that they would no longer be creating weekly content for their channel.

In a candid 2019 video with fellow YouTuber Shane Dawson, Ethan said: "Had we not been filming a video every week, we would have been able to spend more time with our family around the time that they needed us."

One fan responded: "I honestly saw this coming from a mile away. They didn’t seem excited about their videos anymore and it all felt like an act."

Another said: "After they stopped the weekly uploads, the vibe just wasn’t there anymore."

But many showed their support for the twins' decision.

One fan added: "An end of an era- but the beginning of a new chapter... The future is so bright for the both of you. Thanks for keeping it real and spreading positivity while doing it."
