Glastonbury ‘signs’ Guns N’ Roses as bassist confirms the band will play Worthy Farm

GUNS N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan has accidentally confirmed the US band will perform at Glastonbury for the first time this summer.

The rocker, who helped form the band in 1985, promised their performance at Glastonbury will be “iconic.”

They have been rumoured to be on the line-up for months, although Sir Elton John is the only act formally confirmed for the event in June.

Duff seemingly revealed they would be playing there during a discussion on his US radio show Three Chords & The Truth, in which he also spoke about their upcoming show at BST Hyde Park in London - taking place a week after Glastonbury.

He said: “Glastonbury is gonna be iconic.”

The latest odds put Guns N’ Roses - who have had hits such as Sweet Child O’ Mine, Paradise City and Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door - at one to five to headline.

Tickets for this year’s festival sold out within minutes last October.

Arctic Monkeys are also expected to perform, although this week, Melanie C insisted the Spice Girls wouldn’t be on the line-up.

Despite rumours, she said: “It’s the question I hate the most, because the answer is as disappointing to me as it is to Spice Girls fans.

“We would love to do Glasto. It just doesn’t fit with the current plan with the girls. We do want to get back on stage – everything is up in the air.”

Last year’s event, delayed from 2020 due to the pandemic, saw headline sets from Billie Eilish, Sir Paul McCartney and Kendrick Lamar, while Diana Ross performed in the Sunday afternoon legends slot.

Announcing Elton in December, Emily Eavis said: “It gives me enormous pleasure to let you know that the one and only Elton John will be making his first ever Glastonbury appearance, headlining the Pyramid Stage on the Sunday night next year [2023].

“This will be the final UK show of Elton’s last ever tour, so we will be closing the Festival and marking this huge moment in both of our histories with the mother of all send offs.

“We are so very happy to finally bring the Rocket Man to Worthy Farm.”
