Katy Perry in talks to hit back at Taylor Swift with MTV VMAs performance
Pop princess is in the running to open illustrious show as she plans to launch herself back on the stage with new single Rise
KATY PERRY kept a dignified silence during arch rival TAYLOR SWIFT’s bitter row with CALVIN HARRIS last week.
But the singer was keeping her powder dry for one of the grandest stages of all — the MTV VMAs.
I can reveal she’s in talks to open the ceremony, with bosses banking on her addressing her feud with Taylor to millions of TV viewers across the world.
The illustrious award show, at Madison Square Garden, New York, on August 28, has thrived on controversial moments.
But organisers know an explosive development in pop’s most high-profile feud would top the lot.

A source said: “Katy’s been gearing up for her musical comeback for months and this would be the perfect way to launch herself back on the big stage. The talks are in early stages but both parties are keen for it to happen.
“Her record label Capitol have backed her by coughing up millions to ensure her new album is her best yet.
“Given the amount of material she has at her disposal, especially her reaction to Taylor’s diss track Bad Blood, you can see why it’s so highly anticipated.”
The feud stretches back to 2012 when Katy nicked Taylor’s back-up dancers ready for her 2014 Prism tour.
Taylor hit back by basing her epic single Bad Blood on their rivalry.
But having seen Taylor’s increasing dominance from the sidelines, it’s now time for Katy to hit back, starting with new single Rise, which came out last week.
Katy was name-checked during Calvin’s Twitter rant last week, sparked by the news coming out that
Taylor wrote his latest hit.
He tweeted: “I know you’re off tour and you need someone new to try and bury like Katy ETC but I’m not that guy, sorry.”
Choosing not to weigh in, Katy simply posted a GIF of HILLARY CLINTON with a knowing smile and retweeted an old tweet from May last year which read: “Time, the ultimate truth teller.”
I have a feeling her on-stage response will be slightly more cutting.
