Strictly’s Dianne Buswell was rushed to hospital after cutting out meals and working out excessively to get the perfect figure
SHE’S one of the bubbliest pros on Strictly, but Dianne Buswell has opened up about her past struggles with her weight.
The Aussie redhead’s quest for the perfect figure as a young dancer got so extreme that she was taken to hospital with iron deficiency anaemia.
Recalling the difficult time nine years ago, Dianne said: “Sometimes I did three shows a day and I’d go to the gym. I was exercising excessively and cut out many meals.
“It got to the point where I had no physical energy. Anxiety came with it because I didn’t feel well enough to perform and had to every night.”
Dianne, who is dating her celebrity partner from last year Joe Sugg, said her condition got so bad that her periods stopped and she struggled to climb stairs.
Her worried mum insisted she go to the doctors, where she was told she had iron deficiency anaemia and required immediate hospital treatment.
She told Happiful magazine: “I’ll never forget the moment I had the iron transfusion.
“I went home and went for a run. I felt alive again. I realised I’d put my career on the line and I never wanted to return to that state.”
Dianne, who is dancing with Radio 1’s Dev Griffin this year, now tries to portray a realistic body image on social media.
She added: “It’s all about who I am, not the way I look.”
Cha-cha-changing nappies
STRICTLY stars Gorka Marquez and Gemma Atkinson have opened up about the arrival of their daughter Mia.
On ITV’s Loose Women, the pair revealed how the tot’s birth in July was quite an ordeal, as actress Gemma had a severe bleed.
Gorka said: “The bed was completely red. But she did so well I was so proud.”
Sounds like a TEN from Gorka.
So Carr so good
WE know him now as the Chatty Man who’s a friend to the stars, but Alan Carr was once just a boy with big dreams of a glamorous life in showbiz.
Thanks to a TV show being developed we will soon learn more about that boy as it delves into the childhood of one of telly’s funniest men.
From humble origins, he rose to become a hit stand-up comedian and a celebrity who could count on his mate, pop superstar Adele, to officiate his wedding to partner Paul Drayton in LA last year.
Now that’s a story I really want to know more about.
Must watch
What? Grand Designs, Channel 4, 9pm.
Why? Kevin McCloud follows the progress of a wheelchair-friendly home built by former Paralympic swimmer turned design engineer Mark Butler, who was paralysed in a motorcycle accident.
It's a no, frankly
DAYTIME TV’s Christine Lampard is adamant she and Chelsea boss hubby Frank aren’t about to become the next Richard and Judy.
The Loose Women regular says he is determined to stick to sport.
At a Clic Sargent charity fundraiser this week she confirmed: “Would we ever work together? No way.
“He’s a football man through and through.” But we could be seeing more of her on ITV.
She added: “There’ve been a lot of conversations about more projects.”
Craig in 'Anneka's challenged' jibe
IT seems Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood has no plans to hold his acid tongue after saying the best way to win the show was to sleep with your dance partner.
He has had another sly dig at Kevin Clifton, saying he will need to make sure celeb Anneka Rice is fit for the contest.
He said: “I’ve heard they’re having a ball. And if anyone’s going to whip her into shape – and yes, she is slightly ‘challenged – it will be him.”
He also had a pop at BBC presenter Mike Bushell adding: “He’s like a schoolkid running riot in a sweetshop. He’ll need to calm down, darling.”
He’s not afraid to speak his mind.
