Where is Jane Beale in EastEnders? Bobby’s mum’s exit storyline revisited as fans call for her return
EASTENDERS' troubled Bobby Beale’s mental health issues are getting worse and it’s left fans wondering where his adoptive mum Jane is.
Jane was last seen in 2017 when she was forced to leave the Square by a vengeful Max Branning who tried to kill her after setting fire to the restaurant.
But with all that Max business in the past and with Bobby clearly needing some maternal love, EastEnders fans have taken to Twitter wondering why Jane isn’t there for her son.
One viewer asked: "Quick #EastEnders question. Has it been explained why Jane Beale isn't kicking the door down to hug Bobby now that he's on the outside.
"Considering the lengths Jane went to to protect him you'd think she'd at least send him a text."
Another said: "Wouldn't it be a nice surprise if Laurie Brett returned as Jane Beale for this Bobby storyline? #EastEnders."
And a third added: "They sort of need Jane to come back, so will they recast?!"
So, where is Jane Beale now?
Well, it’s not been made entirely clear where Jane currently is.
She was briefly mentioned last week when Ian suggested that Bobby could call her or stay with her, so she can’t be too far away.
When Jane was last seen, she was wheelchair bound after Bobby viciously attacked her with a hockey stick.
She’d also had a brush with death as Steven Beale – on Max’s orders – set fire to Beales’ restaurant with Jane inside. She managed to escape and Steven died in the fire.
However, Max – who was out for revenge after being in prison for Lucy’s murder – threatened Bobby’s life if Jane didn’t leave Walford for good.
So will Laurie Brett returning to EastEnders?
Currently, there are no plans for Laurie Brett to come back as Jane. But never say never.

Tamzin Outhwaite – who plays Mel Owen – asked Laurie on Twitter if she would be heading back to Walford.
Laurie replied: “Ha ha!! I’m looking to do some other bits and pieces…and take some courses on something I’ve always been interested in…but you never know at some point."
In 2020 Laurie can be seen in a stage adaptation of Kay Mellor’s Band of Gold, alongside other soapies including ex-Emmerdale actress Gaynor Faye and Hollyoaks’ Kieron Richardson.
