New BBC comedy Scarborough slammed by ‘disgusted’ viewers for sick jokes about paedophile Jimmy Savile
THE BBC sparked an angry backlash with a new show that featured sick references to Jimmy Savile.
Viewers blasted new sitcom Scarborough, saying it left them “disgusted” due to jokes about the sex monster.
In one scene comedian Jason Manford’s character Mike Manford is discussing relationship problems with best pal Bigsy, played by Peep Show star Steve Edge, 46.
Bigsy says “Jimmy Savile had the right idea” about women because “he used to call them brain damaged”.
Mike responds: “Wow, of all the people you could quote on relationship advice, you’re giving me Jimmy Savile! Even for you, that’s off the grid.”
Bigsy then said how he thought Jim’ll Fix It had a “cracking theme tune”.
One shocked viewer wrote on Twitter: “I just put on Scarborough to see what it was about because people have said it’s supposed to be good and someone on it said ‘jimmy savile had the right idea’ I am so disgusted. You do NOT joke about that? It’s not funny it’s disgusting.”
Another said: “Too soon for Jimmy Saville jokes BBC1 ‘scarborough’ got off to a good start - but this is not clever & not funny. Think of the victims - those kids in hospital for a start- maybe they were watching. #shameonyou."

The show’s writer Derren Litten, 48, the inspiration behind ITV programme Benidorm, later went on Twitter to defend the content.
He replied to a complaint with the hashtag “job done” suggesting he intentionally wrote about Savile to be provocative.
Scarborough also stars new Strictly Come Dancing contestant Catherine Tyldesley, 35 and veteran actress Claire Sweeney, 48.
