Burning questions from episode two of A Confession

Who was DCC Ray Hayward?

At the beginning of the episode we see DS Steve Fulcher investigating DCC Ray Hayward, who committed suicide in the first episode following a string of sexual harassment complaints made against him.

He then became a person of interest in Sian's disappearance after a car similar to his was spotted.

In real life: DCC Ray Hayward was really a man called Deputy Chief Constable David Ainsworth.

He was one of Wiltshire's top policemen, who had been removed from his normal duties while an internal staff issue was investigated.

Before his death Ainsworth, 49, had been working on other projects while an investigation took place.

Wiltshire Police said he was found dead in March 2011 at his home and his death was not treated as suspicious.

Where is Becky Godden-Edwards?

In the first episode not much was said about Becky but we did find out that her family hadn't seen her for some time and her mum Karen is hoping she'll get in touch.

In episode two, more information about her addiction to drugs is revealed.

In a flashback we see her mum trying to get her off drugs, and even trying heroin herself in a bid to try and get her to stop.

We also see Becky continuously running off.

However, it is still unclear how long Becky has been missing for.

In real life: Becky was a sex worker who disappeared from Swindon.

She was known to Christopher Halliwell, who had become besotted with her after meeting her while working as a taxi driver in the red-light district of the Wiltshire town.

In January 2003, he had sex with Becky, strangled her and buried her body in a field in Gloucestershire.

Her body won't be discovered until after Sian's is found.

When will Christopher Halliwell confess to Sian O'Callaghan's murder?

It was revealed that DC Fulcher - played by Martin Freeman - wants to interview Halliwell at an unofficial location away from the police station without a solicitor - as he is worried that as soon as he has a lawyer "Sian is dead".

He is warned against doing this by his superior officer, and told he is "making a mistake"

The show ended with DC Fulcher talking to Halliwell in the countryside, where he introduced himself, said he was investigating Sian's disappearance and finished by saying: "Are you going to tell us where she is then?"

In real life: Steve arrested Halliwell and took him to Barbury Castle in Wiltshire – where he believed Sian was being held.

Rather than question Halliwell under caution at a police station, Steve decided to grill the cabbie at the Wiltshire beauty spot, without any legal representation and with nothing on tape.

Steve said: "I was following the national kidnap manual to the letter, to prioritise the life of the hostage.

"If she had been alive and I had walked away, my offence would have been grotesque."

Surprisingly, Halliwell would confess to not only killing Sian, but lead Steve to the body of another victim, Becky Godden.
