Wedding bells

Tommy Shelby (played by Cillian Murphy) promised Aberama Gold (Aidan Gillen) he would have Polly Gray’s (Helen McCrory) hand in marriage if he swore he would not go after Jimmy McCarvern ().

Aberama has been set on revenge since the Billy Boys' leader killed his son but has vowed to take a step back for now if he can marry Polly.

Clearly, Polly was delighted at the prospect of walking down the aisle with the lovable Gypsy, as they have grown close in recent years.

She showed how willing she was to tie the knot during the ballet reception for Lizzie Shelby (Natasha O’Keefe) as she accepted his proposal.

Ever so keen to cement their relationship, Polly begged her suitor to sleep with her on the spot, despite her family members sitting just yards away.

But this is Peaky Blinders and nothing is smooth sailing, so while they might be willing to marry each other today the wedding could be called off tomorrow.

Only way to find out whether Aberama makes an honest woman of Polly is to keep watching season five.

Tommy Shelby’s scandalous scheme

Tommy always has a trick up his sleeve and in episode four he revealed his intentions to rip off the Chinese.

He has an agreement with Brilliant Chang, a Chinese restaurateur, to transport his drugs but plans to take some of the opium for himself.

Stupidly, he told his rival Jimmy what he plans to do and although the Scotsman appeared to care very little about what he had brewing there is no knowing whether he will snitch.

Him and Tommy are only on good terms now because they share a common interest – making a ton of money – but once that is done all bets are off.

Needless to say the Shelby Company Limited boss should watch his back during and after his dealings with Jimmy.

Gina Gray’s cunning plan

Gina Gray (Anya Taylor-Joy) is a hard nut to crack, not only does she refuse to play by the rules of the Peaky Blinders but she appears to have a hidden agenda.

It is no secret she wants Michael Gray (Finn Cole) to run the family business and all that comes with it one day.

But how far is she willing to go to make sure her husband is in control of everything that falls under the Shelby umbrella?

Moments before the ballet scene, she told her spouse he would be top dog one day and hinted that Tommy would cease to exist.

She said: “The painting on the wall will be of you ‘cause Tommy Shelby will be gone and it will be Michael Gray arranging the ballet.”

However, it was unclear what she meant by this and whether she has something sinister planned for the father-of-two.

Dark comedy

Who would have thought a gritty drama like Peaky Blinders could be light-hearted at times but that is the case.

Although the series is often about rival gangs, blood and gore, there are moments which tickle viewers.

Take for example Mrs Connors in episode four, who is being beaten by her husband but chose to complain about him killing three birds instead of harming her.

In her own words: “I don’t care my husband beats me but not this”, she said after presenting the three dead birds to Tommy and Arthur.

The drama is full of one liners and amusing stories, which may surprise your average Joe.
