Netflix’s The Witcher is set be as big as Game Of Thrones, says its star
ANYA Chalotra, one of the stars of Netflix's The Witcher, says it could be as big as Game of Thrones.
Many shows are fighting for the throne after HBO's top fantasy series ended earlier this year.
Despite the promo for The Witcher only giving a glimpse, it's set to be a smash hit for the streaming service as cult followers of the popular novels by Andzej Sapkowski that the series is based on clamour for its release.
With The Witcher's release due later this year, Anya, who plays Yennefer, said the possibility of the fantasy saga reaching the dizzying heights of Game of Thrones is "very scary".
Speaking to , Anya said: '"[The show blowing up like Game of Thrones] means my life would blow up as well, wouldn't it?
"Yeah. You know, I'm taking it moment to moment and this already has been very overwhelming.
"It's very scary. This today [press at San Diego Comic-Con] was scary. But then you meet the fans and you realise why you're doing it and suddenly you go, 'ah, they're on your side'."
The show follows the exploits of Geralt (Henry Cavill) a mercenary monster hunter called a Witcher, and will run for eight episodes on Netflix later this year.
Game of Thrones was HBO's most popular show, with 19.3 million people watching the last episode in the US alone. However, the series faced a backlash from fans in its final series who took issue with the turns some of the characters took.

The director of The Witcher, Lauren Hissrich opened up to about how Thrones helped the series become a reality: "I always like to say The Witcher is its own complete thing, but truthfully, Game of Thrones opened a door, at least."
But she also said that where it differs is in its horror: "It's about family and monsters. What we get to bring to it, which is different from other fantasy shows, is you're going to see a tonne of monsters and a tonne of magic. There are times where I will refer to our show as a magical horror show."
