Strictly Come Dancing star Jamie Laing may have to quit the competition after suffering painful foot injury on the launch show
REALITY star Jamie Laing’s Strictly Come Dancing future could be over before it has begun after he was injured in the launch show.
The Made in Chelsea star, 30, landed awkwardly during the group dance on Friday’s pre-recorded opening episode.
It is thought he has damaged a tendon in his right foot and he was seen on Saturday using crutches and wearing a protective moon boot to limit movement and to take the weight off it.
Jamie — spotted with girlfriend Sophie Habboo in Notting Hill, West London — will have a scan this week to determine whether he can stay in the BBC1 competition.
If he has to quit it will be the first time a celebrity has pulled out with injury since 2009.
Olympic long jumper Jade Johnson, 39, left mid-series after tearing a knee ligament during rehearsals.
A show source said: “It’s touch and go for Jamie and bosses are waiting to see how his results look after he gets a proper X-ray done.
“Producers are hoping he’s just landed awkwardly during the group dance and tweaked something rather than it being a more serious injury.
"They’ll know if his Strictly journey is over before it’s even really begun in the next 24 hours or so.”
Jamie, who is heir to the McVitie’s biscuit empire, was hurt during filming at Elstree Studios in Herts.
It is a critical time in the contest as he had only just learned who his dance partner was to be.
The pair would have wanted to use every available minute in the next three weeks to practise before the first proper live show.
The source said: “It’s terrible timing. These three weeks are paramount to doing well.
“Jamie and his partner will have wanted to hit the ground running but he’ll have his feet up now for a few days at least.”
