Who left Bake Off this week, who was Star Baker and what will happen on the final?

IT was the semi-final on Bake Off this week and saw the final four contestants tackle patisserie delights.

But who managed to impress discerning judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood and who sadly left the tent ahead of next week's final? Here's the lowdown.

The Great British Bake Off 2019 saw Rosie Brandreth-Poynter eliminated in week 9

Who has been eliminated from Bake Off 2019 so far?

  • Week One, CakesDan Chambers got the elbow after changing his recipe in the Signature Bake which left it under-baked. He fared a little better in the Technical Challenge with his attempt at baking six identical angel cake slices, placing ninth. Despite being credited for an original design with his Pirate Island cake, alongside its dry ice waterfall, it still wasn’t enough to keep him in the competition.
  • Week Two, Biscuits - After having already left a not-so-great impression with Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith in week one, Jamie Finn was the next baker to receive the boot after failing to show any growth from his previous attempts. And it's fair to say that week two proved to be just as challenging for the waiter from Surrey as he came bottom in the fig roll Technical Challenge and served up a messy Showstopper.
  • Week Three, Bread - Following a good run during Biscuit Week, Amelia Le Bruin had a considerably harder time with bread. The fashion designer, who was named the worst baker in the Technical making burger buns, failed to impress with her "chaotic" chorizo lunch tear and was told her baking was "terrible" for her Caterpillar Transformation Showstopper.
  • Week Four, Dairy - Phil Thorne struggled to keep up with his fellow bakers when his decoration in the Signature and Showstopper challenges fell flat with the judges. His garden-inspired elderflower rockery and pistachio roses failed on all fronts and he - and his garden gnome - were sent packing.
  • Week Five, Roaring Twenties - It was double trouble for Helena Garcia and Michelle Evans-Fecci as they both got chopped from the show. Having been Star Baker earlier in the series, Michelle didn't do enough to stay in with her overambitious bakes. While Helena still got the boot despite winning the Technical due to her “soapy” Signature Bake and “dry” Showstopper.
  • Week Six, Dessert - Priya O’Shea hadn't had the best run in previous weeks, so it wasn't too surprising when she was eliminated. Prue even called her Signature dish "horrible". She also came bottom of the Technical. Her Summer Fruit Bombe Showstopper also didn't go down too well. Speaking about her time on the show she said: "My goal was to make it past half way so while I was sad to leave when I did, I was proud to have made it this far."
  • Week Seven, Festival – We had to say farewell to Theatre manager/Fitness instructor Michael Chakraverty as he officially got chopped from the show. Despite being named as Star Baker earlier in the series, he struggled to keep up with the pack after failing to nail the Technical Challenge of Sicilian Casatelles. While the decision to add rum to his Jamaican Mule layer cake ended up backfiring.
  • Week Eight, PastryHenry started well with an inventive savoury Tart Tatin but he ended up getting the boot from the show after he failed to impress in the Technical and made a chandelier pie tower Showstopper.
  • Week Nine, Patisserie - After making it to the semi-final, it was Rosie Brandreth-Poynter turn to serve her last piece of cake.

Who has won Bake Off 2019's Star Baker so far?

  • Week One, Cakes - Michelle Evans-Fecci bagged Star Baker after creating a toadstool cake in the Showstopper round. The Welsh mum impressed Prue and Paul as they praised her "faultless" cake.
  • Week Two, Biscuits - It appeared as if nobody was truly surprised to see Alice Fevronia win the Star Baker title given that she succeeded with all three tasks in week two.
  • Week Three, Bread - Michael Chkraverty truly deserved his Star Baker accolade after a great Bread Week. The theatre supervisor had a genuinely noteworthy week which began with him wowing the judges with his shocking Keralan Star Bread in the tear and share Signature Challenge - and receiving the coveted Hollywood handshake.
  • Week Four, Dairy - Steph Blackwell did exceptionally well with all three challenges in Dairy Week, which led her to become the new Star Baker. She topped the Technical - but she was only the best of a bad bunch. Paul and Prue loved the flavours in her chocolate and raspberry buttermilk Signature, even though it was a tad too rich.
  • Week Five, The Roaring Twenties - Facing the challenges of 1920s week was a roaring success for Steph Blackwell as she was named Star Baker for a second week in a row. First she impressed with her "perfect" zesty custard pies, while she also managed to fare well in the Technical challenge. Then her Sour Lime Pina Colada cake with Swiss meringue buttercream and candy shard toppings had the judges raving again.
  • Week Six, Dessert - Steph Blackwell kicked off with an Eton Mess which of course Paul and Prue loved. She also sailed through the tricky Technical Challenge. But it was her Mirror Bombe Showstopper that sealed the deal and she was named Star Baker for a third time in a row.
  • Week Seven, Festival - Henry was given a lot of reasons to celebrate as he became the Star Baker for the first time in the series. He bagged himself a Paul Hollywood handshake for his Chocolate Kardemummabullar festive buns and came third in the Technical Challenge. Henry left Prue and Paul delighted with the flavours of his Lemon and Lime layer cake held together with raspberry and mint jam.
  • Week Eight, Pastry - It was a shaky week for Steph which saw her burst into tears during the stress of the Moroccan pie Technical challenge. However her Goats cheese Tart Tatin and curried potato Carousel pie Showstopper helped her nab Star Baker for a fourth time.
  • Week Nine, Patisserie - Alice was named Star Baker for the second time and was thrilled with the honour.

What is next week's Bake Off theme?

The Great British Bake Off 2019 hits screens next Tuesday (October 29) at 8pm on Channel 4 for the grand FINAL.

To determine if their culinary skills are enough to receive such an honour they must prepare a chocolate cake for the signature.

Then, for the technical challenge the contestants must serve up a soufflé, one of the most delicate of dishes.

Finally, for the showstopper they need to create an edible illusion using only cake, sweet bread and biscuits.
