BRENDA Edwards has sparked an animal cruelty row after admitting to leaving her cat alone for almost a week while she goes on holiday.
The former X Factor star was slammed by viewers for saying she leaves her cat to look after itself with an automatic feeder while she enjoys her holidays - but a source close to Brenda has since clarified her remarks.
She said: "I would go on holiday and I got one of these things when it has five or six days of tray.
"It's a cat, it can feed itself. They can look after themselves, each day the food pops up and then it pops back down and that's it."
A source close to Brenda said: "What Brenda didn't get a chance to explain is that only she goes away. She leaves the cat with her adult children to look after and just prepares to food for her own peace of mind."
Viewers were horrified by her admission and said they were "absolutely disgusted".
One wrote: "Absolutely disgusted....leaving your Cat for 5 days on its own....Shame on you!!!! @loosewomen"
A second said: "I would never leave my cats alone for 5 days...what happens if the super duper contraption malfunctions!? Or if the poor thing becomes unwell....poor animal! #LooseWomen"
Another added: "Nooooooooooo Brenda you can't leave your cats home alone for five days they still need love and attention and what if God forbid your special feeding contraptions failed to open and your cats has to starve for five days! #LooseWomen 😟"
A fourth tweeted: "Absolutely disgusted....leaving your Cat for 5 days on its own....Shame on you!!!! @loosewomen"
Another said: "Brenda needs to give up those cats if that’s her attitude dumb c*** #loosewomen"
Others pointed out that even if the automatic feeder didn't fail and her cat didn't get lonely, that no-one would be there to empty the litter tray.
One said: "Shame about changing the litter trays, must be minging when she get's back."
Brenda bought two kittens that featured on Loose Women earlier this month for International Cat Day and named them Tiny and Tempa.

An RSPCA spokesman slammed Brenda's actions, adding: "Pet owners should always arrange suitable care for their pets when they go on holiday, whether it be a neighbour, friend or relative regularly popping in to feed and check on your pet; employing a professional pet sitting service; or taking your pet to a licensed boarding establishment.
"It is not acceptable to leave your pets home alone while you’re away even with an automated feeder as if the cat becomes sick or injured there is no-one there to help."
A spokeswoman for Brenda has been contacted for comment.
