ACTRESS Heather Locklear has been ordered to spend a month in a mental health facility after she pleaded no contest to a series of assault charges on first responders.

The 57-year-old, who is known for her role in Melrose Place, faced eight charges, six of which involved battery on a police officer or paramedic following domestic violence calls in 2018.

According to , she has to check into the treatment facility by Friday, September 6 and must spend 30 days in the residential health centre or face being sentenced to 120 days in jail.

The Dynasty star will be on three years of unsupervised probation and was ordered not to possess any weapons, non-prescribed medications or alcohol.

Heather was arrested last June after she allegedly punched a cop and kicked a paramedic as they responded to a "disturbance call" at her home.

At the time, a family member of Heather's is understood to have called 911 while the actress was "heavily intoxicated" - just days after she "threatened to shoot herself".

She was reported to have entered a rehab in November 2018 seeking treatment, according to .

In February 2018, she was arrested for domestic violence and for battery against a police officer, who attended the incident at her address in Thousand Oaks, California.

After being accused of hitting her boyfriend Chris Heisser, Locklear was charged with domestic abuse – but those charges were dropped in March.

Following her release from jail on bail, she voluntarily checked herself into hospital "for the treatment of alcohol abuse and mental health issues".

In recent years, the actress has been at the centre of various legal and personal troubles.

She was pulled over in September 2008 on suspicion of Driving Under the Influence (DUI).

While a test found no alcohol or illegal drugs in her system, she was charged with one misdemeanour count of DUI.

The Santa Barbara County Deputy District Attorney said he believed medication she was on for anxiety and depression "could have impaired her ability to safely drive a motor vehicle".

At the time, Locklear pleaded no contest to reckless driving.

In March 2008, paramedics and police officers rushed to Locklear's home when a man claiming to be her doctor called 911, saying he feared she was trying to commit suicide.

However, the actress appeared fine when cops showed up at her door.

In January 2012, authorities responded to Locklear's house again after her sister called 911, fearing her life was in danger after mixing prescription medication and alcohol.

Locklear was taken to the hospital but was discharged the next day.

In September 2017 Locklear reportedly crashed her Porsche into a ditch in Los Angeles.
