Gordon Ramsay admits he got high from sampling an exotic addictive nut while filming his new series

GORDON Ramsay has admitted getting high while filming his latest show — after he sampled the addictive betel nut in a market.

The nut is used as a stimulant across much of Asia and is chewed by people in search of a cheap high.

Gordon, 52, tried it in a market in Laos while filming new National Geographic series Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted. The dad of five said the experience was “a little bit bizarre”.

The celebrity chef also ate guinea pig and water bugs — but said they will not be appearing on his menus.

He said: “I won’t be putting guinea pig on the menu that’s for sure.

“And I’m not too sure how well the blown-up small intestines of the seal would go down for Sunday lunch at the Savoy Grill.

“Ask me that question next week when there’s a riot outside the hotel.”

Betel chewing is not only addictive — it can also lead to tremors, dizziness and even psychosis.

It gives a buzz equivalent to drinking six cups of coffee but users are at much greater risk of oral cancers.
