Coronation Street’s Sam Robertson admits he almost quit the soap before signing a new contract
CORONATION Street star Sam Robertson almost quit the soap earlier this year - but a 10 week holiday granted by bosses changed his mind.
The actor - who has played Adam Barlow in the ITV soap on and off since 2004 - returned for his most recent stint in 2016 but has now admitted he was struggling adjusting back into life on the nation's biggest soaps and it got to the point where he was going to walk away.
But when his best friend was marrying in Sydney, Sam asked bosses to give him time off so he could go away and he ended up taking 10 weeks off - which gave him time to reassess his life and realise that he did want to remain on the show.
He told The Sun Online: "I was in a strange head space before my break.
"This job overtakes your life, you can’t leave it at the door on a Friday night and that was getting to me. I wasn’t enjoying that aspect or the intrusion. I needed the head space to decide if I wanted that long term.
"If I hadn’t had that break my mind space could be completely different."
He had even contemplated moving to Australia to escape the downsides of fame.
"Whenever I’ve been down in the dumps in Britain my best mate’s in Sydney," Sam added.
"I look at the pics on Instagram and I’m like ‘yeah right, I’m going go ditch this and move to Sydney on Monday. But whenever I staying with him, reality bites, it’s not all sitting on the beach sipping cocktails it’s get a job get a visa.
"When I was over there this year I realised to stop being silly, I’ve got a really great job in Britain and my life isn’t too bad at all if I could just deal with the intrusion. I’ve realised it’s a mindset.
"If I’m in a good mood I’ve got all the time in the world but if I’m in a bad mood then I don’t want to speak to anyone. What I’ve realised over time and hanging out with other actors is that actually, it’s that it’s part of the job.
"If you’re going to go out to certain places at certain times, not so much in London but in Manchester and where my family are from in Scotland times I'm just going to have to accept it..
"I’m never going to have a night out without someone coming to ask for a selfie. Whereas may be six months ago all I wanted was a night out without someone sticking a camera in my face. Now, I’m thinking it’s no big deal."
The Sun Online exclusively revealed earlier this week how Sam had put pen to paper and decided to remain with the show for another year.

And asked how it could go, Sam revealed wedding bells could be in the future saying: "Absolutely!"
