AMIR Khan's wife Faryal Makhdoom has defended blowing £75,000 on her daughter's first birthday, saying: "It's three per cent of what we earn."
The 27-year-old and I'm A Celeb star Amir blew the staggering sum on a lavish rainforest-themed party for second child Alayna at Bolton's Macron Stadium.
Speaking on Loose Women today, she insisted: "It was only fair because I did one for my older daughter.
"I think we work so hard and every penny we earn is for our children.
"I just wanted to do a big first birthday and for them to remember that their mum and dad threw them a wonderful day.
"I did get people saying: 'What about people that can't afford to do it?' or that the children won't remember it, but I think you do it up to your budget."
She added: "Whether I was married to Amir or not, if I could afford it I would."
After panellist Saira Khan quoted a statistic saying that on average parents spend three per cent of their salary on their child's birthday, she quickly agreed.
Faryal said: "Times have changed. I believe I work really hard and so does my husband and it probably is about three per cent of what we do earn. Everyone's different, everyone has a budget."
If the three-per-cent figure is accurate, that would mean she and Amir make £2.5 million a year.
Saira remarked: "It might have been cheaper to actually take her to the Amazon."
Fans were not impressed either, with one tweeting: "Disgraceful waste of money. She won’t even remember it. Give the money to a children’s charity."
The venue for the party, which the couple also hired to celebrate their engagement, was designed to resemble a tropical rainforest.
The stadium was fitted with a floral ceiling with colourful birds and butterflies hanging down.
There was a dance floor fitted to follow the Amazonian theme with tropical print and Alayna's name in the centre.
A top table held the child's four-tiered birthday cake, and other sweet treats, with golden gates and another flower wall behind.
The family of four co-ordinated their outfits for the big-money party, with Amir in a black baroque print blazer while Faryal wore an embroidered skirt and matching crop top.
First child Lamaisah wore a black dress, which was short at the front and long at the bottom, with a puffed tulle skirt underneath.
The birthday girl - who was born in April last year - wore a similar dress to her sister in a black ball gown.
