Sheridan Smith reveals she’s been snubbed for Gavin & Stacey Christmas reunion show by ex James Corden
SHERIDAN Smith has confirmed she has been left out of the Gavin & Stacey reunion by ex James Corden.
She said she wanted to return as Rudi — sister of show co-creator Corden’s character Smithy — but had not heard anything.
Corden, who began a two-year relationship with Sheridan in 2007 when they first worked on the show, revealed plans for a Christmas special two weeks ago.
But Sheridan, 37, was not included in the line-up of stars in the publicity shot.
Asked by Radio 2 host Zoe Ball yesterday if she was appearing in the one-off, she said: “I wish.
"No, I’m not going to be in it. I don’t think, anyway.”
Zoe said there should be a campaign for Sheridan and said one of the show’s most memorable scenes was Rudi and Smithy rapping Kanye West’s verse from the Estelle song American Boy.
Sheridan agreed: “I could do my rap again. I love it.”
Corden, who wrote the series with Ruth Jones, is now married with three children and hosts a US chat show.
His split from the Funny Girl star was said to be acrimonious but sources close to her insist they remain friends.
Yesterday, Sheridan saluted 40-year-old Corden’s performance hosting Sunday night’s Tony Awards in New York by posting a theatre emoji underneath Twitter praise by David Walliams.
And last night she told The Sun: “Like everyone, I can’t wait to watch the Christmas Special.
"I’m so proud to be have been a part of something so special.”
Sheridan, engaged to ex-city worker Jamie Horn, 28, featured in seven of the 20 episodes of Gavin & Stacey.
They included the third and final series, which aired ten years ago and introduced their mum Cath, played by Pam Ferris.
In April, Corden admitted wife Julia had never seen the sitcom.
He said: “She is constantly taken aback by the level of ‘Smithy, let’s get a beer’.”
