The Virtues’ Niamh Algar reveals Shane Meadows didn’t plan the ‘gritty and raw’ end to her storyline
CHANNEL 4’s The Virtues returned tonight for the third episode but actress Niamh Algar has revealed creator Shane Meadows didn’t plan the “gritty and raw” end to her storyline.
In an interview, the Irish star said that after shooting her final scenes the team went to the pub where they agreed something wasn’t right and they should do it again.
The Virtues stars Stephen Graham as Joseph who, following his wife and son leaving for Australia, travels to Ireland where he reunites with his lost-long sister Anna.
Niamh plays Anna’s sister-in-law who forms a connection with Joseph in the second episode.
The series has been lauded by critics and speaking to , the Niamh revealed the production team reshot Dinah's story.
She said: "We didn't plan for it – it was one of those where it could have gone either way.

"But when we shot the first ending, we all went to the pub, as you do, afterwards, and... something just didn't fit right.
"And Shane said, 'Do you mind if we come back and approach it again tomorrow? And I’ll let you know what we're going to do in the moment?' And that ended up being the ending that we went with."
BAFTA-winning filmmaker Shane Meadows, Niamh and the rest of the cast were praised tonight on social media for their incredible performances.
