Love Island 2019 cast slammed by Jameela Jamil as she begs for plus-sized Islander
JAMEELA Jamil has slammed the new Love Island cast and begged bosses for a plus-sized Islander.
The Good Place star - who campaigns for body positivity - ranted about the ITV2 show after rumours it had recruited Anna Vakili to show diversity.
Jameela tweeted yesterday: "The producers of Love Island think this slim woman counts as their new token 'plus-size' contestant? Are they drunk?"
Anna - a pharmacist from London - has been dubbed the "British Kim Kardashian".
The 28-year-old is one of 12 new Islanders preparing to head into the villa when the new series kicks off on June 3.
Former contestant Kady McDermott criticised Jameela for hitting out at the dating show.
She wrote on Twitter: "Who even said she was the plus-size contestant?
"Maybe we shouldn’t be labelling women as anything and just letting them be who they are.
"Skinny/slim/curvy/obese who cares."
Love Island also came under fire from fans who were disappointed the contestants didn't show more diversity.
Ex-Islanders Alexandra Cane and Malin Andersson said there should be more "curvy girls" shown on screen.
One fan said: "So this is plus-size? I’m a fan of a plus size girl, and I’ve got more plus size in the big toe on my right foot than she has all together.. jeez! #plussizegirlsrule"
Another added: "They’re too ashamed to have a person without a small waist on their show and this is the issue we have with it. PEOPLE COME IN MORE SHAPES AND SIZES OTHER THAN AN HOURGLASS!!!! this woman is gorgeous but is not the plus-size representation we hoped for."
Someone else said: "Because she has curves she’s suddenly plus size?! hundreds of women have curves & none of them are plus size.
"What are they even classing as plus size? in modelling anything above an 8 is considered plus size & some high street shops class a 12-14 as plus size, it’s ridiculous."
