SPENCER Matthews has revealed he was forced to hide in a vault inside a watch shop as it was smashed to pieces by thieves threatening staff with "huge hammers".
The former Made in Chelsea star was shook up as he described the terrifying moment robbers ransacked the vintage jewellers on Duke Street, London, while he was inside.
Spencer, 30, told how he ran from the hammer-wielding thieves to escape harm this morning after they smashed through glass windows on scooters to clear out the store.
In a video message on Instagram, Spencer said: "I just had to hide in a vault downstairs in a watch shop while it was smashed to pieces by armed robbers.
"Well, maybe not armed, but they had huge jackhammers.
"I was picking up a vintage piece I've been waiting on for ages when they drove a scooter through the glass and started battering the shop with huge hammers wearing helmets.
"We were in the back of the shop so we sprinted downstairs and hid in the vault until the noise passed."
After a worrying wait locked in the building's safe, Spencer came out to find the entire store trashed.
Jewellery worth thousands of pounds had been taken - leaving the reality TV star fearing his long-awaited watch was gone.
But in a strange twist of fate, Spencer discovered it buried in the shattered glass. He claims it was the only watch left in the ransacked store.
"When we came upstairs the watches were all gone," Spencer explained.
"We were looking around and I was thinking 'f***ing hell, the thing I've been waiting for has been nicked and I'm going to have to go get another one.'

"Then low and behold amongst all the rubble there's one watch in the entire shop and it's mine.
"If that's not luck I don't know what is."
Showing he had recovered from the shock, Spencer posted a snap of him wearing his new watch.
He captioned it: "The only one they didn't take."
