Britain’s Got Talent semi-final to feature Sheridan Smith and Jason Donovan singing medley of Joseph hits
AFTER Twist and Pulse and Ashley and Pudsey, Britain’s Got Talent is set for its greatest double-act yet.
Sheridan Smith and Jason Donovan have been lined up to perform at the live semi-finals.
They will sing a medley of hits from musical Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, in which the pair are starring when it returns to London’s West End this summer.
An insider said: “It will be the first time Sheridan has performed songs from the musical publicly, so it’s a coup for ITV. Bosses expect decent ratings.” The talent show’s live semi-finals begin on Monday and run through to next Friday, with ten acts making it through to the final next Sunday.
It is yet to be confirmed which night Jason and Sheridan will perform.
Sheridan’s role in the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical was announced in March.
Talking about the stage show, she said: “I wore a purple T-shirt in the Joseph choir at primary school . . . and with my senior school, I went to the London Palladium and watched it. Amazing memories.”
Joseph starts an 11-week run at the Palladium on June 27.
BGT is the ideal curtain-raiser.

A grape job for Amanda
NO, this isn’t the new Britain’s Got Talent panel... much as Amanda Holden might like to be fed grapes on live telly by Simon Cowell.
This is the first proper look at Amanda in the very funny new series of ITV2’s Ancient Roman sitcom Plebs. Amanda – wearing just the type of outfit she sports normally on primetime – plays Rufina, a lusty aristocrat who sets her sights on Jason (Jonathan Pointing) at a banquet he gatecrashes.
Joining Amanda in the new series is Blackadder legend Tony Robinson, who plays an archaeologist in a nod to his days presenting Time Team.
Also appearing in Plebs’ fifth series will be Silent Witness star Emilia Fox, who crops up as a detective, and Cold Feet’s John Thomson.
I doubt John will be playing a cabbie somehow.
Must Watch
WHAT? The Graham Norton Show, BBC1, 10.35pm.
WHY? X-Men special with the stars of Dark Phoenix – Jessica Chastain, Michael Fassbender, Sophie Turner and James McAvoy.
NUCLEAR WINNER
WHEN I first heard about Sky Atlantic’s new series Chernobyl, I thought it looked good but worried it might be another programme retelling an old story. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
I am three episodes into the drama and it is one of the best things I’ve watched in years.
And it seems the public agree. Yesterday it became the top-rated show on IMDB in telly history.
It is currently rated 9.6 out of ten, with 32,000 punters agreeing just how good it is.
That beats critical darlings such as Breaking Bad, The Wire and The Sopranos.
The five-parter – which boasts Emily Watson, Jared Harris and Stellan Skarsgard among the stellar cast – tells the story of the 1986 blast at the Chernobyl power plant in northern Ukraine, the world’s worst nuclear disaster.
The hospital scenes will stay with you for ever.
I honestly can’t recommend it enough.
Biz Bit
FILMING has started on a third series of BBC1’s The A Word. The drama will pick up two years on from the end of series two, with Christopher Eccleston set to return as Maurice Scott, the grandfather of a lad with autism.
Rachel's My Famous Babysitter
AS Countdown’s human calculator, Rachel Riley is always solving bewildering maths problems on TV.
Now she faces a rather different challenge – dealing with other people’s children as a celebrity childminder in new reality show My Famous Babysitter, on the W channel.
Each week in the four-part series, a different celebrity is tasked with looking after another family’s children for seven long days.
Rachel is dating her former Strictly pro dance partner Pasha Kovalev but has no kids of her own.
She might find this harder than any Conundrum.
