THE NETHERLANDS were crowned the champions of the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest with a whopping 492 points.

There was heartbreak in store for the United Kingdom with entrant Michael Rice coming in LAST place.

Singer Duncan Laurence beamed with pride as he accepted the Eurovision trophy from previous year's winner, Netta.

Asked to give a message to the voting public, Netherlands native Duncan gushed: "This is to dreaming big."

Duncan's win marks the first time that The Netherlands have been victorious at the Eurovision Song Contest since 1975.

Sending his thoughts to UK contender Michael, Graham Norton said: "I hope he's not upset because he did all he could tonight, he really did.

Graham continued: "Our hearts go out to Michael and the whole team who worked so, so hard on the competition this year. You can't fault his performance tonight and he absolutely did not deserve that result.

"It was really unfair, and I hope he's OK... He's got his mum and his Nan here, and we will all go and give him a hug later on."

Another voting shock came when Germany received ZERO points from the voting public, leaving them in third-to-last position.

Performing in front of his home country, Israeli singer Kobi Marimi broke down in tears following his emotionally-charged performance of track, Home.

An act who proved less popular on the night was San Marino's entrant, Serhat, who performed in an all-white costume for an energetic rendition of track, Say Na Na Na.

Cyprus Eurovision entry Tamta was accused of being a "Madonna wannabe" as she flashed her crotch in a bondage outfit on stage tonight.

Viewers claimed she shared a striking resemblance to the Queen of Pop who will be performing later in the show.

Eurovision fanatics were left stunned with Iceland group Hatari's BDSM inspired performance.

The rock anthem impressed viewers at home, with several calling it as a potential winner.

Elsewhere, Slovenia's entrants raised eyebrows with their intimate performance.

Real-life couple Zala Kralj & Gašper Šantl met on Instagram and decided to enter the competition with track, Sebi, which translates in English to 'Onself'.

Australia wowed with their show-stopping performance as performer Kate Miller-Heidke flew across the stage.

Graham Norton was lost for words as he tried to give his verdict on their "wonderful" performance.

But despite the incredible staging, Australia only managed to pass into the top 10, landing in ninth position.

The 2019 Eurovision Song Contest kicked off with a host of the competition's most iconic stars returning to perform a greatest hits medley.

Fans were buzzing with excitement as acts including Dana International and Netta returned to the stage.

Flocking to social media to comment on the incredible opening performance, one fan put: "Dana International - Oh my shoulder pad heaven!"

Another commented: "The diva is here! Dana International!"

Graham Norton narrated the opening for UK viewers after last year's winner Netta introduced the show with a comedy skit.

The host explained how this is Israel's third time of hosting Eurovision, but it marks the first occasion that Tel Aviv has been the host city.

Tonight's final in Tel Aviv will also feature a 10-minute performance from the Queen of Pop as Madonna performs iconic hit Like A Prayer during the interval.
