Virgin Radio host Chris Evans’ Breakfast Show tops one million listeners a week
The former Radio 2 star, 53, has boosted Virgin Radio UK's entire schedule
VIRGIN Radio host Chris Evans has increased its audience by six times, industry figures revealed.
The former Radio 2 star, 53, took over the Breakfast Show in January and soon pulled in 1.05million listeners a week.
He has also boosted Virgin Radio UK’s entire schedule — with the audience trebling quarter-on-quarter to 1.4million listeners.
Chris, who spent eight years at the BBC, said: “Last year I said I wanted a new mountain to climb.
"And the view from the top of the News Tower isn’t half bad. But really this is just base camp.
"I am back in my spiritual home and loving every minute of it.”

Scott Taunton, CEO of the station’s owner Wireless — part of News UK which also owns The Sun — hailed the “exceptional set of results”.
He added: “The breakfast slot has grown its audience to over one million listeners, seven times what it was in the last quarter.”
Chris’ radio rival Zoe Ball, who took over his former Radio 2 show, has held steady with the number of listeners. But the station’s overall listening hours are down ten per cent.
