Bros star Luke Goss has turned down spot on Strictly Come Dancing because he thinks he is too famous

BROS star Luke Goss has turned down a high-profile stint on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing — because he thinks he is too big for the show.

The drummer, 50, who is based in Los Angeles, also fears it could damage his acting career and wants to focus on that rather than the scandal-hit dance show.

Luke’s twin brother Matt took part in the 2013 Christmas special — although his appearance failed to help relaunch his career.

But Luke and Matt, who had a huge hit in 1987 with When Will I be Famous, did get an unexpected boost from last year’s BBC4 documentary After The Screaming Stops, which became a cult hit.

A source said: “Strictly bosses are desperate to bag Luke as the star of their line up this year as he’s so hot right now, but he’s adamant that he’s not taking part.

“He takes his acting career in the US very seriously and feels the show isn’t high-brow enough for him.

“He’s in a position to be able to choose what projects he takes on and doesn’t want to associate with anything too low rent, especially given the recent scandals.

“Matt was quite underwhelmed when he did the Christmas special, so they’ve decided to step away from any involvement.

“But Beeb bosses think Luke would be a ratings winner and are keen to keep the audience’s focus away from Strictly’s recent scandal.”

The BBC show was first thrown into crisis in October when married dancer Katya Jones was snapped kissing celeb partner Seann Walsh.

Its reputation took another hit last month when reigning champ Stacey Dooley ditched her boyfriend to date her pro partner Kevin Clifton.

And this week The Sun revealed that the show’s talent chief Stefania Aleksander said on social media that “champagne and cocaine” were on her list of items to take on holiday.

Luke has also had his share of woe — we told this week that he had split from wife of 25 years Shirley Lewis over claims he cheated.
