Walford's favourite pub landlord has been away from our screens ever since he and wife Linda headed to Australia to see their daughter Nancy marry her long-term love Tamwar Masood back in February.
But when Linda returned to EastEnders a few weeks later, Mick wasn’t with her, leaving fans concerned that the Queen Vic legend may not be returning.
However, there was nothing to panic about - Mick had simply decided he wanted to spend some quality time Down Under with his daughter.
In real life actor Danny Dyer was temporarily written out of the BBC One soap so he could appear on stage in Harold Pinter play The Dumb Waiter.
Danny appeared alongside Hollywood star Martin Freeman in the play, which received rave reviews from critics.
Mick’s return is the start of a new storyline for the character who will soon come face to face with a newcomer who is set to become Mick’s new rival.
Grange Hill legend Lee McDonald is joining the cast playing a character called Terry, who is a bus driver.
The pair will clash as Terry takes on Mick as they both try to win some concert tickets.
Mick – wanting the tickets for Linda – will be determined to get them, but will he come out victorious?
Talking about his stint in the show, Lee said: “I am absolutely chuffed to bits and so excited to be briefly joining the case of EastEnders.
“I can’t say too much yet - but watch this space! Top banana!”
Lee is best known for playing the role of Zammo in Grange Hill for five years back in the 80s.
He was involved in one of the kids’ TV drama’s biggest storylines when his character became addicted to drugs.
Since hanging up his school uniform in 1987, Lee has also had roles in Birds of a Feather, The Bill and a televised version of Shakespeare play A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
