LINE Of Duty fans are convinced that Ted Hastings is John Corbett’s dad after he allegedly had an affair with his mum Anne Marie.

During tonight’s dramatic finale viewers learnt more about Ted’s (Adrian Dunbar) connection to Northern Ireland and John Corbett (Stephen Graham).

It turned out he was close to John’s mum when she was working as an informant and there was a suggestion they had an affair.

Ted had been the last person to see Anne Marie alive before she was brutally murdered but he had no idea that she was John’s mum.

Her family believed that the police were to blame for Anne Marie’s killing because they, in particular Ted, were supposed to be protecting her.

When Ted learns that John was Anne Marie’s son, he breaks down in tears – leaving fans wondering whether he could in fact be John’s father.

Taking to Twitter to speculate, one person wrote: "Could Hastings be John Corbett's dad? #LineOfDuty #LineOfDutyFinale"

Another added: "What if Hastings is corbetts dad?  #lineofduty."

While someone else remarked: "John Corbett is Ted's son? #LineOfDuty"

It emerges that Gill Biggeloe had in fact picked John Corbett to go undercover and had told him that Ted was the policeman working closely with his mum before she was brutally murdered – knowing full well that Corbett would do everything in his power to bring Ted down.
John – who got his throat slit earlier on the series – believed Ted was ‘H’ because of Gill’s information but he had died in vain searching for the wrong person.
