GAME of Thrones fans think the Night King was going to bend the knee to Bran Stark and expose him as the REAL villain before he was killed by Arya.
Theorists speculating about episode four of the finale series are convinced there are even more "shocks and twists" still to come - and the dramatic death of the leader of the White Walkers' Army of the Dead was a set-up.
Many think that the reason Bran wasn't killed is because the Night King was actually a loyal follower to the Three-Eyed Raven.
In the first episode of series eight, Ned Stark's youngest son is reunited with his half-brother Jon Snow and describes himself as "almost" a man.
It has led many to think that Bran became the Night King because he has travelled too far to leap back in to the present day.
In a bid to cover up his tracks, some fans suggest Bran ordered Arya to murder him because that's the only explanation about why the Night King was so easily killed.
One said: "What if the Night King was about to take his sword out hand it to Bran and bend the knee #GameofThrones #GOT."
Another asked: "Are we 100% sure that the #NightKing wasn’t coming to rescue Bran/The 3 Eyed Raven? That he wasn’t going to present him with his sword and kneel at his feet? #GoT #GameOfThrones #TheLongNight."
Someone else said: "All you people whining about #GoT S8E3, what if the #NightKing isn't dead and that was just a facade (will explain why it was so easy to kill him)?
"What if #Bran actually is the night King and wanted everyone to think they've won the war?"
A fan wondered: "A twist I was expecting in #GoT Ep 3 was for the “Night King” to bow in front of Bran, thus revealing him as the REAL Night King.
"#bran #Stark will be the new #NightKing @GameOfThrones."
Another said: "Wait o, think about it. How can the night king just die like that !!!! I feel like there’s a plot twist somewhere. It was too easy!!!!!
"He might re-incarnate as Bran. #GOT #GameofThrones."
A sixth added: "Let’s judge things at end of the series. Still think there is some shocks and twists to come. #GOT #melt #thrones #nightking #Bran."
Episode three of season eight the longest ever instalment of the show so far lasting one hour and 22 minutes.
Including the Night King and a dragon, eight key characters died in the bloody Battle of Winterfell.
It was so gruesome that not even GoT star Bella Ramsey is allowed to watch the show.
