EASTENDERS viewers were left in tears last night as cancer-stricken Jean Slater got her son Sean to shave her head after clumps of hair fell out during a country break.

The mother and son had headed to the countryside to spend some quality time together after Sean returned to Albert Square earlier this week.

However Jean soon noticed clumps of hair falling out, and decided to bite the bullet and ask her son to shave the rest off for her.

As she sat in front of a mirror, Sean gently started running the clippers across her head, her locks falling on the floor.

The two barely said a word in the emotional scenes, and EastEnders fans quickly took to Twitter to share their heartbreak.

One wrote: "Such heartbreaking and powerful scenes in tonight’s episode of @bbceastenders. Gillian Wright and @RobertKazinsky such brilliant actors absolutely beautiful scenes."

EastEnders' Sean Slater ominously says he'll see dead ex-wife Roxy Mitchell again soon as he sits by her graveside

Another added: "That scene with Jean and Sean was so precious."

A third agreed, writing: "Watching Jean on #EastEnders shave her hair was heartbreaking, the fact that people go through this on a daily basis, so sad x."

Sean - who is considering taking his own life - managed to lighten the mood when he'd finished by joking: "Your ears are massive."

As his mum laughed, she replied: "If someone had said a couple of weeks ago I'd be here with you doing this, thank you."

The pair then went out for a walk where they started to open up to each other before Jean fell and badly cut her leg open.

Once they were back at their cottage, Sean ended up revealing his darkest secret, that he had accidentally killed his dad Brian when he was a teenager.

As Jean went in and out of consciousness, he said: "I punched him, and then he died, because of me.
