Not so Marvel-ous

Here’s the real reason Avengers Endgame doesn’t have a post-credits scene

THE post-credits scenes of every Marvel movie since 2008’s Iron Man has played a significant role in setting viewers up for what’s about to come next in the MCU.

But in Avengers: Endgame, fans were stunned to see that there were no post-credits scenes at all, suggesting that the story is officially over.

Why didn't they include a post-credits scene in Endgame?

Avengers: Endgame was always going to conclude the narrative that has been building up ever since the world was first introduced to Iron Man back in 2008.

Fans have watched characters of all sorts emerge over the years; including Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain America, Doctor Strange, and many more.

All of these names helped build a fascinating story which would eventually lead to the arrival of Marvel’s villain Thanos whose only mission is to obtain all six Infinity Gems and killing half of the universe in the process.

Following Thanos’ defeat, the franchise as a whole had reached an end - at least as far as The Avengers are concerned.

This resulted in the decision to not have a post-credits scene at the end of Endgame; a decision that was made by the film’s co-director Joe Russo.

It was always known that Endgame was would conclude the series as a whole, and there really didn’t seem to be any reason to add a post-credits scene to a narrative that had officially ended.

Leaving the doors closed on the idea of having a post-credits scene also gives Marvel the freedom to explore different storylines and plots for their next line-up of superheroes coming together to fight evil without putting thoughts in the heads of their loyal fans.

Marvel is used to teasing viewers with what’s to come, but Endgame needed to end the way that it did - after all, this really IS the end to the story.

What’s next to come in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Spider-Man: Far From Home will kick off the MCU’s phase four, which the studio has announced to be first film post-Avengers: Endgame.

In 2020, Scarlett Johansson will return as Black Widow in her spin-off - which will be a prequel to the events that have occurred since her first arrival in Marvel’s Iron Man 2.

Other notable films to be placed in phase four of Marvel’s upcoming line-up includes Black Panther 2, Shang-Chi, The Eternals and Doctor Strange 2.
