Why Sean Slater REALLY left EastEnders as he makes explosive return tonight
It's been a while since actor Robert Kazinsky was last seen in Walford
EASTENDERS fans, the wait is officially over - Sean Slater is making a dramatic return to Walford TONIGHT.
It's been a whopping ten years since he was last in town and getting him to come back was no easy task for his sister Stacey, despite the fact his mum Jean has been diagnosed with cancer. So what's his problem? Why did he ever leave and why was so he really so reluctant to reunite with his family?
Cast your mind back to EastEnders' New year's Day 2009 episode.
Sean – played by Robert Kazinsky - decided it would be best for everyone if he packed his bags and left after driving into an icy lake with his wife Roxy Mitchell and her baby daughter Amy in tow.
Somehow, they all managed to escape unharmed, but after he crawled out of the water, Roxy told him to leave before he disappeared into the fog, never to be seen again.
Dramatic, huh? But how did he get into this situation?
Well, Sean married Roxy – played by Rita Simons - after discovering she was pregnant shortly after they began dating.
Sean naively assumed he was the dad, but this is EastEnders and nothing is ever that simple. Turned out, Roxy actually fell pregnant after a one night stand with her brother-in-law, Jack Branning.
However, being none the wiser, Sean wanted to do the right thing and support Roxy and the baby. But Roxy initially wasn’t interested and fled to Ibiza. Later though, Sean found out that she was staying with her dad Archie Mitchell in Weymouth. Determined to put things right, he headed to the coast and managed to persuade Roxy to return to Walford.
Roxy then gave birth to Amy in November 2008, but a few weeks later Jack asked her for a paternity test.
When Roxy got the results – confirming that Amy was Jack’s – she hid them, however, Archie found them and made a copy, which he presented to Sean on Christmas Day.
Predictably Sean didn’t take the news very well and went on a major rampage, attacking Jack – Scott Maslen - and kidnapping the baby. Later he tried to convince Roxy to leave Walford with him and Amy.
She agreed but was secretly terrified of Sean and asked her sister Ronnie and Jack to follow them.
Roxy was right to be worried as Sean planned to drive into the lake so the three of them could die as a family.

The lake was iced over and, while Roxy managed to escape from the submerged car, she couldn’t free Amy. In the end Sean helped her rescue the baby and get her to safety across the ice, but then the ice cracked and they both ended up underwater again. This time Roxy got caught in the weeds and Sean saved her before Ronnie dived in to drag her sister out of the water. Jack and Ronnie got Roxy to safety but there was no sign of Sean.
Roxy didn’t let on that she’d let him go and that was the last we saw of him –apart from a Skype call with Stacey back in 2015.
We’re guessing Jack isn’t going to be thrilled to see the man who almost drowned his baby daughter.
