THE ever-so-popular period drama Jamestown is returning for its third and final series tonight, with the end of season two having seen Jocelyn making an enemy of Yeardley.
His plan could potentially destroy her but, more importantly, it could also tear the Sharrows apart. So what can YOU expect from the upcoming series? Find out below...
What are the reviews for the show?
Jamestown has received relatively positive reviews, with describing the show as being a period drama, but it’s nowhere near as dark as one would’ve expected.
“There’s also something self-consciously lighthearted aboutJamestown, underscored by the soundtrack that echoes back to classic Westerns,” the website explains.
It’s further mentioned that the Sky One series allows women of a particular time to stand in the forefront and be viewed as strong and independent -- which is quite rare when it comes to a series that’s set in Virginia in the 1600s.
“Jamestown shares the strong women thematic thread with Lark Rise andThe Paradise, and Gallagher tells their stories in the new series through the eyes of the women, with a focus on their relationships.”
“This drama is very well crafted and looks incredible on screen. There is plenty of pretty all around, however. The cast is gorgeous, including the drunken Meredith, whose layered charm grows on you with each episode.”
How did Jamestown season 2 end?
The second season ended with tensions rising due to George Yeardley's aim to expand the territory onto Native American land.
The show’s third season picks up with the tobacco farms fully established and trade is booming.
The flourishing community creates new tensions between the English and the Pamunkey, and with politics rife in the air, the idealism of the New World is tested.
But as Yeardley’s thirst for power grows, can he handle the consequences?
And how far will Opechancanough go to protect his native land?
When is Jamestown series 3 is coming to Sky One?
The third season of Jamestown is set to be the last ever.
It kicks off TODAY (April 26) at 9pm on Sky One.
Based on a true event, the series - which started in 2017 - is set in the 17th-century settlement of Jamestown, Virginia.
For 12 years, only men had lived in the colony, but three women were sent from England to marry frontiersmen. It’s based on true events.
Who is in the cast?
Sophie Rundle - Alice Kett
Alice Kett is first introduced to viewers while on a ship and she’s more than destined for the New World.
Alice is a very soft character, who is kind, good natured and most certainly cares a lot for the people she’s closest to.
With all that in mind, Alice is determined to find a husband who shares similar traits as her own - she’s not asking for more than to just be treated with respect.
Mind you, the show is set in the 1600s, so there’s a clear understanding as to why a woman of her time would demand some sort of appreciation.
The actress who plays Alice, Sophie Rundle, previously starred in the ITV drama The Bletchley Circle and was famously cast in Matt LeBlanc’s sitcom Episodes.
Stuart Martin - Silas Sharrow
Alice is head over heels for Silas (Stuart Martin), who collects her from the ship.
But while Alice hopes that Silas will whisk her off her feet and settle down with the ever-so-handsome character, she learns that his only job is to accompany her and bring the brunette to his brother Henry.
Martin has starred in several shows in the past including Game of Thrones, Crossing Lines and British comedy series Babylon.
His biggest role has been in the Netflix show Medici: Masters of Florence, where he went on to play Lorenzo de’Medici.
Naomi Battrick – Jocelyn Woodbryg
Jocelyn’s character is quite the contrast from Alice, seeing that she’s posh and has already been introduced to her soon-to-be husband.
She makes a desperate attempt to get to Jamestown in order to be with her man, but complications arise when the boat becomes unsettled by a disastrous storm and Jocelyn confides in Alice that she’s killed a man.
She believes she’ll get punished for committing the crime and can only focus her attention on living a happy life with her husband by her side.
Actress Naomi Battrick, who plays the character, is known for having starred in CBBC’s My Almost Famous Family.
Max Beesley – Henry Sharrow
Henry is Silas’ older brother, and it’s not hard to tell that this man has worked very hard to sustain a certain lifestyle in Jamestown.
He has been saving money to buy a wife but the unfortunate case is that Henry isn’t exactly the nicest guy to be around. In fact, he is violent and cruel to most people who stand in his presence.
It goes without saying that Alice would prefer settling down and getting married to Silas than his not-so-nice sibling.
Jason Flemyng – Sir George Yeardley
Sir George Yeardley is sent by the King as the colony’s new governor, and his arrival to Jamestown has left a lot of people unsettled.
George makes it known right from the beginning that he stands above citizens of Jamestown, and because he’s the new governor, he gets to consolidate his power to anybody that thinks they can get in his way.
Fans may recognize Jason Flemyng - the actor who plays the role - from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and the TV series Mayhew in SS-GB, portraying George Mayhew in the show.
Kalani Queypo - Chacrow
Chacrow is a tough warrior and captain that serves the people of Jamestown and the Pamunkey.
He's probably the closest friend to Silas Sharrow and has made several speeches on his pal's behalf, showing that he's also a confidant of sorts.
One of his key skills is that he knows when to be respectful and gracious, but then there's also another side that will have Chacrow become tactical to the point where he outsmarts people and mocks the English.
He's one of the most respected figures among the people he serves.
Prior to his role in Jamestown, Kalani Queypo has made waves in Hollywood by starring in projects such as 2005's The New World, 2015's Slow West and 2017's Fear the Walking Dead.
Crabtree feels as if the governor's power has gotten to his head and plans on being an active figure in stopping any possible wrongdoing on Yeardley's behalf.
