Trust Me on BBC One recap – what happened in season one, is Jodie Whittaker returning for the new series and what will happen in season 2?
TRUST Me is back for a second series with a whole new premise and cast.
But what happened in the first season? And who starred alongside Jodie Whittaker?
What happened in season 1 of Trust Me?
Trust Me is set in Edinburgh and tells the story of Cathy - played by Jodie Whittaker - who is a hardworking and skilled nurse, who loses her job for whistle-blowing.
She is forced to take drastic measures to provide for her daughter.
Out of desperation, Cathy seizes the opportunity to steal her best friend’s identity as a senior doctor and start a new life in Edinburgh.
The story follows Cathy as she buries herself deeper and deeper in the imposter persona and realises she could get everything she ever wanted - the job, the man, the dream.
However, her old life threatens to destroy her new situation and the series follows Cathy’s efforts to protect it.
Who else was in the cast of series 1?
Blake Harrison
Blake is best known for playing Neil Sutherland in hit show The Inbetweeners but switched his comedy hat for a more dramatic one with Trust Me.
The actor plays Cathy's ex-husband Karl, who is also the relatively useless father of their daughter Molly.
Having sorted his addiction problems, Karl is keen to be a better dad to his daughter - despite relying on handouts from Cathy.
Emun Elliott
Scottish actor Emun is best known for playing John Moray in BBC One period drama, The Paradise, as well as creepy businessman Alistair McDermid in BBC3 drama Clique.
In Trust Me, Emun plays Andrew Brenner, an easy going doctor who is committed to his job at the Edinburgh hospital where Cathy gets a job.
The pair grow close as they start to work together and embark on a passionate fling.
Sharon Small
Sharon Small is best known for playing Detective Sergeant Barbara Havers in The Inspector Lynley Mysteries as well as appearing in Silent Witness and Midsomer Murders.
The actress is Brigitte Raynes, Cathy's overworked new boss who is nothing short of perplexed as to why a seemingly overqualified consultant such as Cathy would want to work at her underwhelming West Lothian Trust.
Brigitte takes Cathy under her wing at first.
Is Jodie Whittaker returning for the new series?
No, unfortunately not - the second series has an entirely new cast, meaning Jodie Whittaker and co will not be starring.
Harry Potter's Alfred Enoch plays main character Jamie McCain.
Speaking about his new role, he said: "It’s great to be on board. It’s a cracking cast and [creator] Dan [Sefton] has done a great job crafting something that’s really invested in the characters.
“It has a psychological concern that is dark and thrilling."
While The Victim's John Hannah plays Archie Watson, one of Jamie's senior doctors.
Catastrophe's Ashley Jensen plays physiotherapist Debbie and Richard Rankin - known for Outlander - stars as neurologist Dr Alex Kiernan.
WHAT'S ON TV?
What will happen in season 2 of Trust Me?
Trust Me tells the story of Corporal James McCain, a soldier who was injured and temporarily paralysed on duty.
He's now recovering in a Glasgow hospital witnessing patients dying around him.
Jamie is spurred on to investigate their deaths but his injury is holding him back.
Series' writer Dan Sefton said: “I just thought it was really interesting idea to have someone who was previously really strong and fit and sort of physically defined themselves to become completely kind of broken and unable to do anything.
“And then the idea of them trying to, you know, investigate — getting a zest for life back, or a reason to live back, just because they have to do something to stop somebody else being killed.”
