Little proved to have a big heart and some big laughs to boot
While the title references Tom Hanks’ 1988 body-swap comedy Big, this merely ticks the boxes of the genre — but the cast bring humour and sass to stop it feeling stale
JORDAN Sanders (Regina Hall) is a fearsome tech mogul who bullies assistant April (Issa Rae) and staff until – in the middle of a work crisis – she is magically transformed into her 13-year-old self (Marsai Martin).
Leaving April to keep her personal and professional life afloat, young Jordan is sent back to school and forced to relive the worst years of her life until she can grow up again.
While the title references Tom Hanks’ 1988 body-swap comedy Big, this merely ticks the boxes of the genre – sexual awkwardness, problems to solve and stereotypical characters, including a workaholic who needs their walls breaking down and a put-upon assistant who must pluck up the courage to find her voice. Still, Hall, Martin and Rae bring humour and sass to stop it feeling stale.
I loved watching these three trade jibes and fans of Rae’s TV series Insecure will welcome her brand of relatable wit.
