LOUIS Tomlinson has hinted he may not return to this year's series of The X Factor because of his solo career.

The 27-year-old made the revelation during a pre-recorded interview on yesterday's Lorraine, which aired hours before Robbie Williams and his wife Ayda Field announced they would not be returning to the show.

The couple only joined the ITV show last year, but took to social media today to say their other work commitments had made it impossible for them to commit to a second year.

In an interview for Lorraine recorded five days before his 18-year-old sister Felicite passed away, Louis spoke to The Sun's Dan Wootton about his experience as a first-time judge on the show alongside Robbie and Ayda last year.

Louis said: "It was such an amazing experience and I was nervous about doing it at first.

"It was really exciting, and getting involved in all the creative side was experience that's hard for me to get in my day to day."

Dan then told Louis about reports show boss Simon Cowell wanted the 2018 judging panel to return this year.

While the normal format of the show has been scrapped for 2019, an all-star and celebrity series is in the works, but Louis revealed he hadn't heard anything from the 59-year-old.

He said: "He hasn't called me yet!"

But even if Simon did get in touch, Louis admitted there's a good chance he won't return anyway, leaving the music mogul with NO judges.

He explained: "I had an amazing experience last year but if it's going to get in the way of my mission for this year, which is releasing the album, it's probably going to be less likely."

But proving there's no hard feelings between him and Simon, whatever happens, Louis added: "I have a really good relationship with Simon.

"I just feel like I make him a little bit younger because he does sometimes throw around the dad jokes a bit too often."

Louis wrote Two of Us about his beloved mum Johannah Deakin, who died in 2016 after a battle with cancer.

Discussing grief, Louis said: "We can all talk about it a little bit more, I think that's why I feel good about singing the lyrics, it was a moment for me to speak about [grief] publicly and put it into lyrics.

"Mum was always obsessed with this idea of me playing piano and someone said 'what about playing the opening verse on piano?'

"Normally I might have said no, but really knowing that she liked that idea, I just zoned into that and I just went with it, and I think I pulled it off."
