Phoenix Night’s Ted Robbins gets urgent medical care after fire caused by tumble dryer at his home leaves him struggling to breathe
The 63-year-old noticed a funny smell and within minutes his house was covered in smoke and he couldn't breathe.
PHOENIX Night's Ted Robbins has received urgent medical care after a fire, caused by a tumble dryer, broke out at his home.
The actor , 63, - who is Emily Atack's uncle - revealed he was left struggling to breathe and was treated for smoke inhalation after flames spread throughout his house in Rossendale, Lancashire during the scary incident.
He told the : "It happened so quickly. It was billowing out. Within three minutes the place was full of smoke.”
He revealed he noticed an “acrid smell” and while his eyes were “watering”.
The comic, who says the dryer was off at the time, used a wet towel to cover the machine and managed to prevent any further damage.
He joked that his wife " hasn't got any knickers. It burnt the lot".
"We're hugely lucky to get out and stay out. I covered the tumble dryer with a wet towel. It was the last thing I expected because it was plugged in but it wasn't on," he continued.
"I'm so glad no-one was hurt and it wasn't at night."
The utility room and bathroom were left "completely gutted" by thick smoke.
It comes four years after Ted, who played Den Perry on Phoenix Nights, suffered a heartattack fell ill in front of a huge audience of 25,000 people during a live reunion of the sitcom, written by Peter Kay, in 2015.
The star was actually deemed “clinically dead” but was rescued by two members in the crowd before he was taken to hospital.
When he regained consciousness on the ward, I’m A Celebrity star Emily, who is the daughter of Ted’s sister Kate, was there waiting and she burst into tears as soon as he opened his eyes.

Ted told the Daily Star: “My heart stopped. I was clinically dead. A paramedic and a doctor in the audience saved my life that night.
“All the family came to see me in hospital. Emily was on the side of the bed and her mother on the other side. Emily had mascara on. And tears were dropping down from her eyes.
She was crying and said: ‘Uncle Ted, I love you.’ I said: ‘I love you too. Why are you crying?’ She said: ‘I don’t know. Every time I see you I’m always laughing. I’m always cheeky to you. I just love you.’”
