Killing Eve renewed for a third season as frustrated British fans vent about America getting the BBC series first
KILLING Eve has been renewed for a third season - with the news being confirmed just one day after the second series of the BBC One show premiered in America.
British fans of the Phoebe Waller-Bridge drama have been left fuming after US viewers got the new episodes first, with series two not thought to be hitting UK screens until June the earliest.
Phoebe, who created the show, announced in a statement earlier today that Suzanne Heathcote will be taking over as showrunner for the next season of the award-winning programme, serving as lead writer as well as executive producer.
She said: "I’m very excited that the Killing Eve baton is being passed onto another incredible writer for season three.
"We can sleep soundly knowing these characters are safe in Suzanne Heathcote’s hilariously murderous hands."
The star was lead writer in the first series of the show, with Emerald Fennell taking charge of season two.
Emerald said of Suzanne's appointment: "It’s been such an exciting year for me on Killing Eve. I think it’s cool that this tradition has been built into this untraditional show.
"Inheriting some of Phoebe’s characters was a treat — I can’t wait to see what Suzanne does next."
The first series of the show was a huge success, being nominated for two Emmy awards and 14 Baftas.
Sandra Oh, who plays lead character Eve Polastri, took home a Golden Globe for her portrayal, as well as a Screen Actors Guild award.
Meanwhile, fans are outraged that they will likely have to wait until the entire second series airs in the US before they get a chance to watch it in Britain.
The first season hit US screens five months before it made its way across the pond, with a spokesperson for the BBC insisting that America hold the rights to the show.
They said: "The show was commissioned by BBC America and so they have the rights to show it first.
"BBC public service in the UK has acquired the UK rights to the show."
BBC America is not funded by the UK licence fee.
But that wasn't enough to satisfy Brits, who took to social media to share their fury.
One seethed: "Why do BBC America get the new season of Killing Eve before we do?? I am annoyed."
Another wrote: "That's sooooooo f***ing unfair. We in the UK always get hit with shows and movies last.
