Sir Mick Jagger will be back on stage with the Rolling Stones by summer after heart valve replacement surgery, say friends

SIR Mick Jagger is aiming to be back on stage with the Rolling Stones by the summer after having heart valve replacement surgery this weekend.

The rock legend, 75, postponed the band's North American tour after the heart defect was discovered last week.

: “By the summer, everyone is expecting to see him back on stage.

"The fact his team are reorganising the dates shows they share his self-belief.

"You forget how fit he is. For most people in their 70s, the period of recuperation would be quite prolonged, but he is on another planet when it comes to people in his age group."

The Sun exclusively revealed the singer will undergo heart surgery in New York City in a few days' time.

A source said: “This kind of surgery has a high success rate.”

Professor Sir Nilesh Samani, Medical Director at the British Heart Foundation, said Mick will probably have keyhole surgery.

He added: “The benefit is that there are no big scars that need to heal, unlike open heart surgery.

“A patient can expect to go home within 24 to 48 hours, feel well one or two weeks later and be back to normal health after a month. The procedure is highly successful and if all goes well, it is possible Mick will have more energy than previously.”

The defective heart valve was picked up during a medical ahead of the band’s North American tour.

It led to the shock announcement on Saturday that the band were postponing the 17-date sell-out tour because Mick needed unspecified medical treatment.

The postponement came just three weeks before the tour was to start. Mick told fans: "I really hate letting you down like this. I'm devastated for having to postpone the tour but I will be working very hard to be back on stage as soon as I can."

The dad-of-eight was spotted enjoying some downtime on the beach in Miami with his family and bandmate Keith Richards, 75, over the weekend.
