BLUE Planet Live viewers were horrified last night when a seagull swooped down during a piece about saving turtles - and grabbed one from behind presenter Liz Bonnin.

Just she was talking about the "privilege of watching precious new lives" and the turtles "making it in the big blue", the bird delivered a savage lesson in the brutality of nature.

Viewers were severely unimpressed by seeing the greedy gull waddle off with a turtle in its beak, with many erupting in swear words.

One tweeted: "I just shrieked at the f***ing seagull nabbing a baby turtle on #BluePlanetLive the chip thieving b***ard."

Another gasped: "Had to rewind it 3 times as I seen and couldn't believe it poor turtle."

A third wrote: "When #BluePlanetLive is making a poignant message about saving the turtles and a baby turtle gets eaten in the background."

One other pointed out the irony of the shot, saying: "I love that she's giving a speech about how we need to safeguard their lives... 🤦‍♂️,"

It seemed show directors tried to hide the unhappy outcome, with one fan saying: "😮 It was the way they tried to cut it out of the shot.....and then you see it walking away!!"

Another said that the little fellas could have been saved by being deposited in the ocean.

They tweeted: "Honestly 😂😂😂😂 wouldn’t you have just put then in the water 🤪."

But one viewer summed it up best, posting simply: "Nature is savage."
