Katie Price horrifies onlookers by using blue plastic rope as dog lead for £1,000 puppy
One was shocked that the star had the animal on an old bit of string looped 'around its neck, just tied in a knot'
KATIE Price has come under fire from dog-lovers for using a ragged blue rope instead of a proper collar and lead on her £1,000 puppy.
The 40-year-old was seen with her German Shepherd Bear on a bit of old string while watching boyfriend Kris Boyson play football at the weekend.
One onlooker said: "I couldn’t believe what I was seeing – I’ve seen Katie there before, but her dog had a bit of blue rope around its neck, just tied in a knot.
"It was jumping all over the place and straining against the makeshift lead, I was really worried she’d hurt the dog."
They added: "It was a really cute puppy, obviously very young – I couldn’t understand why she didn’t have a proper collar and lead on."
A spokesperson from animal charity the Blue Cross told The Sun Online that Katie could have been breaking any number of welfare guidelines.
They explained: "It’s the law to have a collar with ID tags on your dog when they’re out in public.
"We’d always recommend proper collars and leads not just for the comfort of the dog, but also for safety.
"We also recommend a flat collar and a harness for the lead to be attached to, to save pressure on the neck."
Many were astonished at the sight of Pricey with the German Shepherd on a rope, writing online: "Can she not even afford a dog lead, she's got a bit of twine tied to the dog."
Another asked: "Why is that dog being kept on a rope?"
A third posted: "Old pricey scuttling around after him dragging her dog on a piece of old rope, and letting the other roam free. Can't she afford proper leads or harnesses for them?"
An expert from The Dog's Trust explained: "If a dog is a bit bigger and stronger, a harness is a good shout.
"It is comfortable for the dog and gives the owner a bit more control if still training."
In February, The Sun revealed that Katie's puppy had narrowly avoided death after escaping her home and running onto a busy dual carriageway - a year after her previous dog was killed by a car.
The £1,000 Alsatian pup hopped a fence near the star’s £2million nine-bedroom mansion and ran out among speeding traffic.
Luckily, a passer-by stopped and took the terrified animal to a vet.
A rep for Katie declined to comment.
