BLUE Planet Live viewers joked the programme had given them anxiety after watching presenter Steve Backshall present the show underwater surrounded entirely by sharks.

The diving expert didn’t seem to be fazed at all by the giant fish with razor-sharp teeth but fans of the show couldn’t hide their panic.

Viewers of BBC 1’s stunning show Blue Planet Live tweeted their mixture of disbelief and awe as presenter Steve Backshall calmly jumped into the shark-infested water.

One wrote: “Even though I know he’s an expert, it still made me nervous when he was chatting with sharks just swimming in circles around him. How amazing at the same time, though! #BluePlanetLive”

While another added: “Not one to get anxiety but I’m kinda panicking watching Steve swim with so many sharks while maintaining composure in order to present live underwater”

One user tweeted: “Does anyone else have massive anxiety watching Steve in the ocean with sharks”

Steve, who is an expert diver, didn’t seem to be worried about getting into the water with the shark.

However before jumping off the boat did make the sensible remark that he “needed to wait for a gap” because he didn’t want to step off onto one of the creatures.

Stating in all seriousness, “that would be a bad start”.

The naturalist explained to viewers he needed to make his way down to the bottom of the ocean where his team were waiting for him.

He revealed he could see three types of sharks swimming around him and he was closely monitoring their body language in case of an attack.

Steve couldn’t hide his enthusiasm as he raved about the sharks swimming around him, telling viewers they were “more likely to killed taking a selfie than by a shark”.

One viewer tweeted: “Loving #BluePlanetLive but Steve with all those sharks isn't doing my anxiety any good”

While another added: “OMG he’s just casually bobbing in the water surrounded by sharks. My anxiety is going mental here #BluePlanetLive”
