Eddie Redmayne gets his wand out in first look at Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts
THE official announcement trailer gives a glimpse of what fans can expect from the film in November 2016
HARRY Potter fans have finally been given a glimpse of what to expect from
spinoff film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
The first trailer for the eagerly-anticipated film has been released, showing
Academy Award-winner Eddie Redmayne as protagonist Newt Scamander for the
first time.
As the teaser reaches its climax, he can be seen casting a powerful spell with
blue sparks flying from his wand.
And as the clip opens, Newt is heard muttering the light-creating spell lumos
maxima - one which fans of the original wizarding series will know well.
The spell is apt as the trailer spreads light on what audiences can expect
from the film, which began filming in Liverpool in October.
In the clip a judge can be heard explaining: "Yesterday a wizard entered
New York with a case. A case full of magical creatures. And unfortunately
some have escaped."
And young magizoologist Newt gets his hands on the brown case, opening it to a
huge growl from inside.
A female companion then shockingly asks, "It was opened?" to which he
innocently replies, "Just a smidge".
During the two-minute teaser, buildings are also shown in tatters after
attacks by the creatures, giving the first insight into the film's plot.
As well as Eddie, the film which is set in 1920s America stars Colin Farrell,
Ron Perlman, Gemma Chan and The Perks of Being a Wallflower actor Ezra
Miller.
Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has made her debut as a screenwriter with the
film, which is directed by David Yates who worked on the final four Potter
movies.
