Line Of Duty creator Jed Mercurio reveals he’s plotting crime drama’s end

LINE Of Duty creator Jed Mercurio has revealed that he is plotting how the crime drama will end as he admitted plans to axe the popular BBC programme before fans get bored of it.

The upcoming series of the popular show is due to hit our screens at the end of the month, and the sixth series has already been commissioned for next year.

Line of Duty may not be around for much longer

However, Jed doesn’t think that the police drama has much more life in it.

When asked how the show will end, the showrunner told : “I have had some thoughts. I don’t know how long it can go on for.

“I think a lot depends on how people respond to it.

“I think we recognise that it has got a lifespan. We have to calibrate that against what the audience response is.”

The award-winning crime drama has become one of the BBC’s most successful series of all time since its launch in 2012.

The Sun previously revealed that Stephen Graham has replaced Thandie Newton as the chief investigator for series five of the show, although Jed has since teased that Thandie could still return as Roz.

He told the : “There are always ways in which we’d bring someone back for the right story.”

The show also stars Vicky McClure, Adrian Dunbar, and Martin Compston.

Line of Duty follows the work of AC-12 a special unit charged with investigating corruption within the police force.

Jed previously said of the upcoming series: “I want to look at the personal lives of all the regulars in series five.

“They’ve taken a backseat in [series four] to Roz Huntley, so it would be good to explore that side of things a bit more.

“The regulars are definitely up for doing more.”

The fifth season of Line Of Duty will premiere on BBC One on March 31
