Courteney Cox returns to the Friends apartment – and jokes Monica’s rent would have gone up by £10,000
The star took a trip down memory lane while out and about in NYC last night
COURTENEY Cox joined in the everlasting joke about Monica Geller's New York City rent as she returned to her old Friends apartment yesterday.
The actress, 54, joked the price would have gone up by £10,000 a month if her character was living in the same pad today.
The Cougar Town star took a trip down memory lane as she visited the iconic West Village building Monica lived in during the sitcom's ten year run from 1994-2004.
Waving to the camera, she quipped: "Goodnight guys, I'm going home," as the Friends transition music played in the background.
She captioned the clip: "The One Where My Rent Went Up $12,000 ."
The NYC block provided the exterior shots for her apartment, which Monica shared with best friend Rachel Green - played by Jennifer Aniston - before her boyfriend-turned-husband Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry) moved in.
Fans have often joked about how Monica and Rachel managed to afford their spacious two-bedroom, one-bathroom pad.
For many years the pair were regularly in and out of employment before Monica finally become head chef in a top restaurant and Rachel a buyer at Ralph Lauren.
The show later explained that they could actually afford it because Monica had inherited a rent-controlled lease from her grandmother.
It meant the pair only had to pay £153 ($200) per month.
While the price would still have burnt holes in pockets back in the nineties and early noughties, nowadays the average rental price for a two-bedroom apartment in the West Village is a staggering £3445 a month.
The show will celebrate the 25th anniversary of its very first episode later this year.
