Sam Smith reveals he wanted sex change and says he’s ‘neither male or female’
SAM Smith has admitted that he regularly thinks about whether or not he wants a sex change as he concluded that he is "neither male or female" in a candid new interview.
The 26-year-old singer sat down with Jameela Jamil for her new Instagram series I Weigh.
Speaking about being "non-binary", Sam said: "You do not identify in a gender. You are just you. You are your own special creation. That is how I take it.
"I am not male or female. I think I float somewhere in between - somewhat on the spectrum.
The Grammy award winner went on to add that he "thinks like a woman at times".
He told Jameela: "I’ve always had a bit of a war in my body and my mind... I do think like a woman in my head at times.
"I’ve sometimes sat there and questioned, do I want a sex change? It’s something I still think about, but I don’t think it is
"I’ve tried to change that into my thoughts on gender... when I move, when I have sex with men, it’s very feminine. I’m feminine in many ways - and I’ve resented that."
Sam also opened up about his weight battle over the years, speaking out on undergoing liposuction as a pre-teen, the Stay With Me hitmaker said: "When I was a kid, five or six, I was chubby and then it would get worse and worse and worse and I was holding a lot of weight in my chest.
"And then when I hit 11 years old I went to the doctors. I was so self-conscious that it was affecting my mood every day and my life as a teenager.
"I was holding a lot of oestrogen in my chest. I had breasts. I had liposuction, I was 12 years old.
"That was a big thing. At the time I was very happy about it."
However, Sam quickly regained all of the weight, confessing that he "hadn't figured out his relationship with food".
The star famously dropped almost four stone in 2015 after switching to a healthier diet and exercise regime.
